THE IMPORTANCE OF SPENDING QUALITY TIME WITH YOURSLEF

Going solo can be terrifying. A group of friends offers comfort in any situation, especially in brand new or crowded places. It isn't easy to do thing by yourself, but it's vital to living your best life. Taking time to yourself each day, for a variety of tasks, will make you a more well-rounded person and will set you up for success in your future. Here's why.

You need to find out who you are

We tend to pick up the ideas, language, and even mannerisms of the people we spend a lot of time with. While sharing a similar personality with your best friends is awesome, it may sometimes obscure who you really are and hinder your growth as a person. Setting out alone time throughout your week is a great way to encounter new things and ideas to react to by yourself. Without the input of others, you'll be able to form your own opinions and gather your own unique ideas about the world.

You need to recharge yourself

Being around a lot of people can lead to sensory overload. The best way to unwind and re-energize yourself is to take time for yourself frequently. Use your time alone to release any tension that may have developed while being overstimulated. Get a massage or go for a run.

You need perspective

Part of recharging yourself is reflecting on things that have happened to you recently. The most intense situations feel the worst when you're in the thick of it, like when you're having an argument with your boyfriend, when you've made a mistake, or when you've been betrayed by someone close to you. Your emotions peak when the situation, or the person, is in front of you and you may make bad decisions from being overwhelmed. By taking alone time, you can put these situations into perspective and think about the short and long term implications of your actions. If you take time to think by yourself before speaking to someone you're upset with, you'll have a more rational and clear conversation.

You need to be independent

While friendship and love are amazing support systems, no one is going to be able to support you more than yourself. Whether it's running errands, traveling, or going to a concert by yourself, independence is key to living a full life. Don't let fear of doing things alone hinder you from doing what you want to do. Learn to love doing things by yourself and for yourself.

You need to take care of yourself

Self care is critical to a beautiful life. It goes beyond getting your hair done and treating yourself to a nice day out. Sometimes self care means removing yourself from potentially stressful situations in favor of hanging out with yourself. The next time you're invited to an event that you know may involve drama, feel free to bow out of it and spend time with yourself instead. Your sanity is the more important than being seen in a crowd any day. ♥
